Hundreds of thousands of workers in India participated in a nationwide strike on Wednesday, challenging Prime Minister Narendra Modi's efforts to privatize state-owned companies and other economic reforms. The strike, dubbed 'Bharat Bandh' (Shut India) in Hindi, was organized by a coalition of 10 major trade unions representing workers, as well as other groups defending the interests of farmers and rural workers.
