At the end of the NATO summit in The Hague, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain will not increase its defense budget above 2.1% of GDP, considering this amount sufficient. Although other NATO member states have agreed to allocate 5% of GDP to defense by 2035, Sanchez stressed that Spain's position is accepted within the alliance. US President Donald Trump criticized this refusal and suggested possible trade penalties for Spain.
