In Madagascar, soldiers joined the protests in Antananarivo, where young people are contesting the government due to shortages of energy and water. After the police used tear gas, the soldiers declared that they would not fire on the protesters, being met with cheers. The movement, called 'Gen Z', has led to numerous injuries and deaths, and the UN has called for respect for the rights to free association. President Rajoelina dismissed the government but appointed military officers in the new cabinet, thus intensifying control over the situation.
