Shell, the world's largest trader of liquefied natural gas (LNG), has announced a force majeure for LNG deliveries purchased from QatarEnergy, following the halt of production in Qatar, the second largest LNG exporter in the world.

QatarEnergy declared force majeure for its deliveries, thus affecting other buyers, including TotalEnergies. Although TotalEnergies did not declare force majeure, it received notifications from QatarEnergy regarding the impossibility of deliveries. The force majeure clause allows companies to be released from contractual obligations in the event of unforeseen events.

The Qatari energy minister estimated that a return to normal deliveries could take from a few weeks to a few months, and the impact of the disruptions will be felt starting in April.
