The South Korean President Lee Jae-myung announced the completion of the agreement with the United States regarding the construction of nuclear-powered submarines, emphasizing the importance of bilateral negotiations in the fields of trade and security. South Korea has obtained U.S. support to expand its authority over uranium enrichment and the reprocessing of spent fuel.
The agreement provides for the continuation of collaboration through a working group to increase the number of American commercial and military vessels. Although the location of the submarine construction remains unclear, the South Korean national security advisor stated that the construction process will take place in South Korea. Seoul has committed to invest 25 billion dollars in American military equipment by 2030 and to provide 33 billion dollars in support to American forces in Korea.
