Scott Bessent, the Treasury Secretary, stated that the U.S. does not face the risk of a recession in 2026 and expressed optimism about the positive impact of President Donald Trump's economic policies. Bessent mentioned that, although there are sectors in difficulty, such as real estate and those sensitive to interest rates, the economy will soon benefit from recent legislative measures, including the permanent tax cuts from 2017. These measures are part of the "One Big, Beautiful Bill Act," which will also include tax exemptions for various income categories.
Bessent emphasized that energy prices will contribute to lowering inflation, and healthcare costs will become more affordable. However, the deadlock in Congress regarding subsidies for the health insurance market could lead to increased costs for millions of Americans. A recent poll shows that the majority of voters believe the Trump administration has not effectively addressed economic issues, and perceptions of the economy vary significantly based on income levels.
