Several earthquakes with magnitudes up to 4.9 have prompted authorities to take precautionary measures. Residents were advised to remain calm, but many spent the night outdoors. The Greek prime minister called for a comprehensive presentation of geological data to assess the extent of the situation. Many schools were closed and indoor gatherings were discouraged. Almost 550 earthquakes have occurred in the last week in the area.
