Books by Irish author Sally Rooney will no longer be supplied in the United Kingdom after she announced her intention to use royalties to support the pro-Palestinian group Palestine Action, which has been banned and classified as a terrorist organization by British authorities.
The decision was announced on Wednesday by Rooney and her publisher, Faber. The publisher said the author’s works would no longer be available for sale in the United Kingdom in any format, but would remain available in other countries. Faber explained that British legislation does not allow it to transfer to the author the income generated from sales in the local market, a situation it considers unacceptable.
Rooney, known for the novels “Normal People” and “Conversations with Friends,” has publicly expressed her support for Palestine Action, including after the group was banned under counterterrorism legislation. She said she was prepared to accept the consequences of her position.
The organization was banned after its members broke into RAF Brize Norton air base in June 2025. The ban is being challenged in court, and the Supreme Court is due to consider the appeal next month. More than 3,000 people have been arrested for displaying messages of support for the group.
