According to the Russian Federal Service for Alcohol Market Regulation, vodka production fell by 10.9% in the first half of 2025, hit by Western sanctions that led to an export ban. Despite the drop in production, alcohol consumption rose, with Russians consuming more in 2024 than in the previous eight years. Sales of foreign drinks have increased and President Putin is encouraging healthier living, promoting sport over alcohol consumption. But vodka remains the drink of choice, accounting for 60% of sales.
