A military court in Moscow has begun examining the case of Pavel Gudoșkin, a former lieutenant accused of 46 charges, including murder and abuse of authority. He is part of a criminal group within his regiment, involved in extortion and violence against other soldiers. The practice known as 'zeroing' or 'resetting' refers to the execution of soldiers who refuse orders.
Although the Kremlin has denied these facts, the court's acknowledgment suggests that the brutalities are more widespread than previously believed. An investigation by the publication 'Verstka' confirmed that many soldiers have been shot by their peers for disobedience, and the actual number of deaths could be much higher. Veteran Aljaksandr Lunin warned of the risk of a revolt, evoking the specter of the military collapse of 1917. The Kremlin has promised an investigation, but Lunin has been arrested on charges of extreme propaganda.
