Evgenii Safronov, a 38-year-old Russian journalist, was found dead in the commune of Meudon, a suburb of Paris, after falling from the window of his apartment located on the seventh floor. The police discovered a chair next to the window and medication in a trash bin in the apartment, and suicide is considered a possible explanation.
Safronov had moved to France six months before his death, after the media outlet he worked for was designated a 'foreign agent' by the Russian authorities. Denis Balashov, another Russian journalist, mentioned that Safronov was suffering from depression and that, a week before his death, he was the victim of cyberattacks. A neighbor in the apartment at the time of the incident was taken to the hospital in a state of shock. The investigation continues.
