The ecological incident in Odesa was caused by Russian airstrikes, which damaged the sunflower oil tanks in the port infrastructure. As a result, dozens of wild birds have died, and ecologists warn of the devastating impact of the oil spill in the Black Sea.

AFP journalist captured images of oil slicks on the shore and large patches covering the surface of the water. Volunteers are working hard to clean the area, collecting contaminated sand and rescuing affected birds. Governor Oleg Kiper explained that the Russian attacks caused a significant amount of oil to leak.

Expert Vladislav Balinski described the incident as an 'ecological disaster,' and veterinarian Leonid Stoianov explained that the birds are dying due to the loss of their protective fat layer, which protects them from the cold. The Pivdenny port has been temporarily closed to allow response teams to carry out the necessary cleanup.
