Four people, including a child, were killed and another 29 were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on the city of Novorossiisk on the night of September 8–9. Drone debris fell in residential areas and on the premises of several enterprises, damaging multiple buildings.

The city’s mayor, Andrei Kravchenko, initially announced that no casualties had been reported. Later, the governor of the Krasnodar region, Veniamin Kondratyev, confirmed the toll of four dead and 29 injured. Three houses, five apartment buildings, an Orthodox church and a kindergarten were damaged.

According to an analysis by Astra, based on eyewitness footage, the attack’s main target was the fuel oil terminal at the commercial port of Novorossiisk. The terminal can handle approximately four million tonnes annually, and at least one fuel tank was reportedly damaged. Images published online show a major fire on the site.

The attack comes after Ukrainian strikes on the port intensified in August. The port is used to export grain, oil, metals and petroleum products. Following the August 15 attack, oil shipments through the Sheskharis terminal were temporarily suspended, according to Reuters sources. Ukraine has also targeted the port of Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea, seeking to reduce Russia’s revenues and Moscow’s ability to finance the war.────
