The Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov, stated that Russia will respect the limits imposed on its nuclear arsenal, despite the expiration of the New START treaty, provided that the United States does the same. Lavrov emphasized that these restrictions will remain in effect only if the U.S. does not exceed the limits set in the treaty. He also mentioned that Russia will act responsibly, analyzing American military policy and the overall strategic situation.

Since the expiration of New START in February, there is no other nuclear disarmament treaty between the two powers, but the Kremlin has stated that Moscow and Washington have agreed to continue negotiations on this issue. New START, signed in 2010, limited the number of deployed nuclear launchers and warheads, but expired without an extension from the Trump administration, which called for a new treaty.
