Iran would have signed a confidential agreement with Russia, estimated at 500 million euros, for the purchase of portable launchers and advanced surface-to-air missile systems, according to the Financial Times.

A contract signed in December in Moscow commits Russia to deliver 500 portable 'Verba' launchers and 2,500 '9M336' missiles to Iran over a period of three years, according to information published by the Financial Times. Deliveries will take place in three batches, between 2027 and 2029, and were negotiated between Rosoboronexport, the Russian arms exporter, and the Iranian Ministry of Defense.

Iran officially requested these systems in July 2025. This request comes in a context of tensions, after American forces bombed Iran's nuclear facilities last year, without completely destroying its nuclear capability.

Russia and Iran have a strategic partnership, and recently, a Russian corvette conducted joint maneuvers with Iranian vessels in the Gulf of Oman.
