Russia reacted to the 30-day waiver issued by the United States, which allows countries to purchase sanctioned Russian oil and petroleum products, considering it an attempt by Washington to stabilize global energy markets. The Kremlin's spokesperson, Dmitry Peskov, stated that Russia's and the U.S.'s interests coincide in this context, emphasizing that without significant volumes of Russian oil, market stabilization is impossible.
This measure comes as a reaction to the energy crisis generated by conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the attacks on Iran that have affected maritime transport. However, Peskov warned that the risks of exacerbating the global energy crisis remain, considering that the waiver applies only to oil loaded until March 12, and the U.S. does not intend to lift long-term sanctions.
