Russia's Ministry of Digital Development has announced restrictions on voice calls on Telegram and WhatsApp, citing failure to cooperate in fraud and terrorism cases. Conflict with the foreign platforms has intensified since the invasion of Ukraine, and Russia is seeking to strengthen its digital control by developing a state-backed messaging app. Although the restrictions target calls, the platforms' functionality has not been completely suspended. Telegram said it is working to remove malicious content.
