Russia has released a former American sailor, Robert Gilman, who had been imprisoned since 2022 and was in extremely serious health condition.
Gilman, originally from Massachusetts, was released 'for humanitarian reasons' and flew on Tuesday to Washington, DC. Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey stated that Gilman was 'practically catatonic' and was facing a 'severe form of pneumonia' prior to his release.
At the time of his arrest, Gilman was 28 years old and was accused of assaulting a police officer while intoxicated. Approximately 50 days before his release, he was diagnosed with dissociative stupor, a condition that made him non-responsive. Although details about his current condition are unknown, it is reported that several doctors were attending to him upon his return to the US.
His family is awaiting his arrival at a military hospital in Texas, and his sister, Lexie Hudson, thanked President Trump for his intervention, stating that this was the only reason her brother is alive.
