After Western sanctions blocked most Russian banks from accessing the SWIFT system, Russia is looking for alternatives for international settlements. A draft law proposes opening foreign bank branches in Russia under certain conditions to facilitate cross-border settlements. The initiative comes in response to the difficulties created by Western sanctions, which have significantly affected the Russian financial system.
