The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation announced that, starting from December 30, 2025, it will close the Consulate General of Poland in Irkutsk, as a measure in response to Poland's decision to close the Russian consulate in Gdansk. This decision was communicated to the Polish ambassador in Russia, Krzysztof Kraevski, on November 27.
The Russian ministry characterized Poland's action as "hostile and unjustified" and emphasized that the Russian Federation will respond firmly to such measures. The closure of the Polish consulate in Irkutsk will mark the end of the operation of the last Polish consulate in Russia, and the Russian Ministry warned that it will not tolerate hostile attacks against it.
