At 81 years old, Giuliani was hospitalized and placed on a ventilator due to severe pneumonia complicated by a restrictive respiratory illness. During his recovery, he claimed to have had a vision in which he was judged by St. Peter, but was interrupted by his deceased friend, Peter J. Powers.
