In the United Kingdom, the Romanian language is the second most spoken foreign language, with 1.2 million speakers. Representatives of Romania propose that Romanian students take an optional exam in the Romanian language as part of the General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE). Parents who educate their children in Romanian support this initiative, considering that the integration of the Romanian language into the curriculum is essential. Recently, a conference on this topic took place in the British Parliament, attended by parliamentarians, educators, and representatives of the Romanian embassy. Ambassador Laura Popescu encouraged parents to reach out to schools and parliamentarians to facilitate this process. Additionally, historian Tessa Dunlop launched a petition to support the request of the Romanian community for a GCSE exam in the Romanian language. Currently, there are Romanian language and culture courses in 12 schools across the United Kingdom.
