Romania has joined an international initiative led by the United States for the development and security of 6G networks, the technology that will replace 5G in the next decade. The alliance brings together over 20 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Japan, with the goal of establishing global standards ahead of the commercial launch of 6G. This initiative is considered a strategic step for strengthening cooperation among allied states and reducing dependence on technologies developed by China. Romania's participation means involvement in defining standards and technological directions for future mobile communications. Additionally, the partnership has a geopolitical component, with the U.S. seeking to limit China's influence in the telecommunications sector. The 6G technology, expected to reach ordinary users in the 2030s, will influence how wireless networks operate globally. Romania will benefit from access to international coordination and will contribute to defining future standards, essential for digital competitiveness and security.
