The foreign ministers of Romania and the Philippines, Oana Ţoiu and Maria Theresa P. Lazaro, agreed to co-organize, in September 2026, the second edition of the ministerial meeting dedicated to strengthening international cooperation for a safe and stable maritime environment, on the margins of the UN General Assembly. This decision was made following an official meeting, where the success of the first meeting in September 2025 was discussed.

The two officials emphasized the importance of the maritime dimension for global security and the respect for international law, especially UNCLOS. Romania highlighted its strategic interest in security in the Black Sea and mentioned its adherence to the Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation in Southeast Asia, as well as its support for strengthening EU-Philippines relations. The meeting will address security developments in both regions.
