A report published by Human Rights Watch (HRW) and Cristosal details the systematic abuses suffered by over 252 Venezuelan deportees in El Salvador, including torture and sexual assaults. Conditions in the CECOT detention center are described as inhumane, with prolonged detention in isolation and inadequate food. The report accuses the Trump administration of complicity, stating that it ordered the deportation of men, knowing they would be mistreated.

It also calls for an independent investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice. Detainees have reported constant beatings and physical and psychological abuses, and some cases of sexual violence have been documented. The report emphasizes that the treatment of these deportees reflects a broader trend of abuses in the prison system in El Salvador, where thousands of people have been arbitrarily detained and tortured.
