The All Eyes on Wagner (AEOW) collective has published a report detailing the recruitment of African citizens by Russia for the conflict in Ukraine, confirming the identity of 1,417 fighters from 35 African countries, of which 316 have died on the front.
Recruitment is carried out through social networks, exploiting the economic vulnerabilities of the population. The largest contingents come from Egypt, Cameroon, and Ghana. The report emphasizes that this phenomenon is not isolated but is part of an organized strategy by Moscow, which is facing a shortage of soldiers. The publication of the list aims to help families find out the fate of their loved ones and to request the return of remains. Kenya has reacted, deeming the recruitment of its citizens unacceptable and announced an official visit to Moscow.
