At Frankfurt International Airport, a 53-year-old passenger flying from Angola to Germany was caught with over 11,270 raw diamonds hidden in a false bottom of his carry-on luggage. The discovery took place on Thursday, and the details were communicated on Friday by German authorities.

The man did not declare the diamonds upon entering the country and could not present the necessary certificates for their legal transport. The amount of diamonds found is unusually large, and estimates suggest that the total value could exceed several million euros, depending on the quality of the stones. Authorities have arrested the man and are investigating the origin of the diamonds, suspecting links to smuggling networks between Africa and Europe. This could be one of the largest diamond seizures in the history of European airports.
