Rebecca Luna, 49 years old, died on Saturday, surrounded by family, after choosing medical assistance in dying (MAID) due to early-onset Alzheimer's. Diagnosed last year, Luna publicly documented her battle with the disease, having over 90,000 followers on social media. In a final TikTok video, she explained that she advanced her chosen date for death due to the deterioration of her health condition.

Luna emphasized that, although she did not wish to die before the age of 50, she felt that her suffering was too great. She reflected on her life, including her abuses and dependencies, and highlighted the importance of her choice to find relief. The MAID law, legalized in Canada in 2016, allows patients with serious conditions to request assisted death, and in March 2021, it was expanded to include patients with non-terminal conditions.
