In a statement, Kim Yo Jong, the sister of the North Korean leader, said that Pyongyang is not interested in dialog with South Korea, regardless of its policy. She highlighted the "irreversible" incompatibility between the two Koreas, which remain formally at war since 1953. Although South Korean President Lee Jae-myung has promised reconciliation, Kim warned that hopes of changing the situation with "a few sweet words" are misguided, underlining the mistrust between the two sides.
