The Kremlin announced that Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Xi Jinping, informing him about the results of his meeting with US special envoy Steve Witkoff. Xi expressed China's support for a long-term solution to the conflict in Ukraine. The conversation came ahead of a planned summit between Putin and Donald Trump, where Russia could demand recognition of occupied Ukrainian territories in exchange for a possible withdrawal of troops from other regions. This demand could be rejected by Ukraine and the Europeans, risking affecting US aid.
