After Nicușor Dan informed European leaders about Călin Georgescu's involvement in manipulating the elections, Vladimir Putin intervened in his defense, stating that restrictions on the opposition are not effective. Putin criticized the European elites for straying from the will of the citizens and accused them of manipulating democratic processes. Călin Georgescu, indicted for promoting legionary ideologies and involved in a case of complicity in actions against the constitutional order, is under judicial control.
