A man in Iran was publicly executed for having killed his wife by suffocation, the sentence being confirmed by the Supreme Court. Public executions are rare in Iran and are often used to intimidate critics of the regime. According to Amnesty International, the number of executions in Iran has exceeded 1,000 this year, the highest in the last 15 years.

In Afghanistan, a man was executed in a stadium in Khost for his involvement in a murder incident in which 10 people died. The execution took place in front of officials and the public, and the victim's family refused to forgive him, invoking the law of retaliation. Although public executions have decreased since the return of the Taliban, public floggings for other offenses continue to be frequent.
