Between 146,000 and 250,000 people took part on Saturday in new protests organized in several cities across France. High school students, university students, and members of the Yellow Vests movement participated in the demonstrations, calling for measures to improve education and increase purchasing power.

The Interior Ministry announced that 146,000 people marched nationwide, while trade unions estimated the number of participants at 250,000. Toward the end of the afternoon, tensions erupted in Paris and other cities, and authorities reported 360 arrests.

According to the Interior Ministry, the demonstrations were marked by numerous incidents in major cities, but overall the situation remained under the control of law enforcement.

The protests will continue on Tuesday, November 10, when trade unions in education and higher education have announced a strike. Saturday’s actions followed a large-scale mobilization held on Thursday, which drew between 575,000 and 1.6 million people, according to differing estimates by the authorities and the CGT trade union.
