Peter Magyar, the winner of the elections in Hungary, is pursuing a close relationship with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk to leverage Poland's experience in restoring relations with the European Union, after years of illiberal governance and democratic regression.

Tusk, visibly happy after the election results in Hungary, stated: “First Warsaw, then Bucharest, Chișinău, and now Budapest. This part of Europe shows that we are not condemned to corrupt and authoritarian governance.”

Magyar chose Warsaw for his first official visit, emphasizing Hungary's 'special relationship' with Poland. The partnership between the two countries could be crucial for bringing Hungary back to the center of European politics, and Tusk, with his experience, could be an important leader in negotiations with the EU. EU officials have begun discussions with the new administration in Budapest, asking Hungary to lift the blockade on a loan for Ukraine and to respect the conditions related to the rule of law and corruption.
