The delegations of the USA, Ukraine, and Russia reached a preliminary result of the trilateral negotiations on Thursday and agreed on a prisoner exchange after "productive" discussions, said American envoy Steve Witkoff.
The delegations agreed to carry out an exchange of 314 prisoners, marking the first such exchange in the last five months.
"This result was achieved following detailed and productive peace discussions. Although there is still much to be done, steps like this demonstrate that sustained diplomatic engagement produces tangible results and promotes efforts to end the war in Ukraine," Witkoff said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasized the importance of returning prisoners home, anticipating progress in this regard. The announcement was made in the context of the trilateral negotiations taking place in Abu Dhabi, where Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev reported significant progress.
Ukrainian negotiator Rustem Umerov confirmed the continuation of discussions in the same format. However, the Kremlin stated that the war will continue until Ukraine accepts the conditions of the Russian Federation, including the withdrawal of troops from Donbas.
