The Danish postal operator PostNord has announced that it will cease mail deliveries after December 31, 2025, a decision motivated by digitalization and a drastic decrease in the volume of letters. In this context, PostNord will sell the mailboxes, which have been part of the Danish landscape for 170 years. Starting from December 15, 1,000 red mailboxes will be available online, at prices between 1,500 and 2,000 Danish crowns (approximately 200-267 euros).

Additionally, in January 2026, another 200 mailboxes will be auctioned, including some decorated by artists. PostNord owns approximately 1,500 mailboxes, and the first was installed in 1851. Although deliveries will cease, postal workers will continue to operate through a new company, Dao, which will install red mailboxes to maintain the tradition of correspondence in Denmark.
