Pope Leo XIV arrived in Cibeles Square in Madrid to officiate the liturgy for the Corpus Christi celebration, attended by 1.2 million people, according to the organizers.
The Sovereign Pontiff arrived shortly before 10:00 AM, traveling a route in the papamobile through the streets of the capital, being greeted with cheers of "long live the pope". Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by the King and Queen of Spain, along with Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofía, as well as local officials.
During the ceremony, the Pope received the Golden Key of the city from the Mayor of Madrid.
His program also includes a private meeting with members of the Order of Saint Augustine, followed by a discussion at Movistar Arena about the collaboration between the Church and various fields of contemporary society.
