Pope Leo XIV, direct appeal to Donald Trump: "I hope he is looking for a way out"

On the threshold of the Easter celebrations, Pope Leo XIV made a strong appeal for the cessation of violence in the Middle East, expressing hope that President Donald Trump will find a solution to stop the war.

In a direct message reported by AFP and The Guardian, the pontiff warned about the escalation of hatred and suffering, emphasizing the importance of dialogue and negotiations among the world's leaders. The Pope stated: “I hope he is looking for a way to reduce violence and bombings,” adding that this would help diminish hatred in the region.

On the occasion of Easter, he insisted on the need for peace and reflection, mentioning the suffering and deaths in the world, including those of innocent children. This is the second time in two days that the pope has made direct comments about the war, admonishing leaders who wage wars and have "blood on their hands." Pope Leo XIV is preparing to celebrate Easter for the first time as sovereign pontiff.
