Pope Leo XIV, a call for responsibility in Cameroon: "Authentic peace arises when... the law serves as a sure guarantee against the whims of the rich and powerful."

Pope Leo XIV urged the government of Cameroon on Wednesday to combat corruption and resist the influences of the wealthy, in a direct speech addressed to President Paul Biya and other leaders.

During his visit, he called for an end to the civil conflict that has led to thousands of casualties. The Pope emphasized the need to break the chains of corruption that affect authority and called for hearts to be freed from the thirst for profit. Although Biya's government denies allegations of corruption, the Pope insisted on the importance of respecting human rights. In the context of the violence in Cameroon, he called for a "safe passage" for civilians during his visit.

Pope Leo, who will travel to several cities, will officiate a liturgy in Douala, where a large gathering of believers is expected. This complex visit underscores his commitment to peace and justice in the region.
