Pope Leon firmly reacted to the accusations made by Donald Trump, who claimed that he would tolerate the idea of Iran possessing nuclear weapons. In a public statement, the Pope emphasized that the mission of the Church is to promote the Gospel and peace, asserting that the Church has always opposed nuclear weapons.

The conflict escalated after Trump stated that the Pope "endangers many Catholics" with his position. Trump claimed that the Pope would prefer Iran to have a nuclear weapon, which he considers dangerous. This is not the first time Trump has criticized the Church, having previously called the Pope "weak."

In this context, Pope Leon will meet with Senator Marco Rubio to discuss the existing tensions, which have become personal, according to diplomats. The dispute reflects deep differences between the Pope and political leaders, reminiscent of historical conflicts between the Church and political authorities.
