Poland has announced that it will not accept migrants relocated from other member states of the European Union, even though the new European Pact on Migration and Asylum has come into force. The Ministry of the Interior in Warsaw believes that the country is in an exceptional situation due to the large number of Ukrainian refugees hosted and the migratory pressure exerted at the border with Belarus. Polish authorities claim that they have obtained exemptions from the solidarity mechanism provided by the pact, which involves the distribution of refugees among member states. Under these conditions, the government states that it will only implement measures that contribute to strengthening border security and combating illegal migration. The executive in Warsaw warns that the border with Belarus requires special protection measures and accuses the regime led by Alexander Lukashenko of facilitating migration to the European Union to exert political pressure on the community bloc. Poland justifies its refusal to participate in the redistribution of migrants by stating that it has already received a very large number of refugees from Ukraine since the outbreak of the war, considering that it has already taken on a significant part of the European humanitarian effort.
