Polish air forces intercepted a Russian Il-20 aircraft over the Baltic Sea, marking the third interception this week.

The Polish air forces intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft Il-20 on Friday, during the third mission of this type in the week.

The Russian aircraft was flying without a flight plan and with its transponder turned off, which posed a risk to air traffic.

Two MiG-29 fighter jets were mobilized to escort the aircraft in accordance with NATO procedures.

The higher command of the Polish air forces confirmed that Polish airspace was not violated. Friday's incident was preceded by two other interceptions of the same type of Russian aircraft, one taking place on Thursday and the other on Tuesday, highlighting increased activity of Russian aircraft in the Baltic Sea area.
