Poland filed an appeal on Monday against the ruling of the Brussels court of first instance, which obliges the country to take approximately 64 million unwanted Covid-19 vaccine doses and to pay the company Pfizer the sum of 1.3 billion euros.

The Polish Ministry of Health stated that the court's decision does not take into account all relevant circumstances and announced that it will use all legal means of defense, without disclosing specific arguments.

The contested ruling refers to an agreement from 2021 negotiated by the European Commission with Pfizer. Poland ceased vaccine deliveries in 2022 due to declining demand and the impact of the war in Ukraine. The Brussels court decided in April 2026 that Warsaw must comply with the contract, imposing a payment of 1.3 billion euros, plus interest. Pfizer argued that the ruling underscores the importance of adhering to contractual obligations within the European response to the pandemic.
