The plot involves a plan to assassinate Ivanishvili, who was the founder of the ruling Georgian Dream party and former prime minister of Georgia. The Georgian authorities have accused Georgians based in Ukraine who are fighting against Russia of plotting a coup in Georgia. Tbilisi says it opposes Russia's war but has not joined sanctions against Moscow.
