Peter Mandelson, former British ambassador to the USA, has been criticized for maintaining his friendship with Jeffrey Epstein, even after his conviction. After being dismissed from his position, Mandelson apologized for continuing to have ties with Epstein, acknowledging that he was wrong to believe and consider him a friend. In an extensive statement, he emphasized that he was not aware of Epstein's crimes and expressed regret for his victims, stating that the system failed to protect them.

Mandelson mentioned that he was "kept away" from Epstein's illegal activities due to his sexual orientation. He also acknowledged that he learned the truth about Epstein only after his death and stressed the importance of listening to the voices of the victims.
