Peru evacuated over 1,400 tourists from the Machu Picchu train station overnight, following protests by locals who blocked the railway to demand the election of a new transport company. Approximately 900 visitors were left stranded, and authorities reported 14 agents injured in clashes with protesters. Tourists were advised to walk to catch another means of transport, and authorities are planning meetings to address community grievances. Machu Picchu, an important UNESCO site, has frequently been affected by social protests.
