The request from Palestine comes in a complex geopolitical context, in which BRICS is trying to expand its global influence. The Palestinian ambassador in Russia has confirmed the submission of the request, and Palestine could participate as a guest in meetings until an official response is received. Membership could provide Palestine with a platform to seek support from major emerging economies, but the final decision is complicated by the divergent interests of BRICS members in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
