Pakistan announced on February 21 that it had launched airstrikes against targets in Afghanistan, releasing the information only on Sunday. These strikes were triggered in response to a series of suicide bombings that took place in Pakistan, which the government in Islamabad attributed to fighters operating from Afghan territory.
In the official statement, Pakistani authorities claimed to possess "conclusive evidence" that the attacks, including those in the month leading up to Ramadan, were orchestrated by the Pakistani Taliban, under the orders of their leadership in Afghanistan. The airstrikes targeted seven camps and hideouts of the terrorists, identified based on intelligence information.
