According to the report, the 12 richest billionaires own more than half of the world's poorest population, approximately 4 billion people. In 2022, the number of billionaires exceeded 3,000, with a combined wealth of 18.3 trillion dollars, an increase of 16.2% compared to previous years. Oxfam emphasizes that favorable tax policies and their influence on institutions undermine democracy, with billionaires being 4,000 times more likely to hold political positions. The NGO calls for the real taxation of the ultra-rich and the banning of political campaign financing to limit their power.
