Over 70 migrants are reported missing after the shipwreck of a vessel in the central Mediterranean, and at least two have been confirmed dead, according to the NGOs Mediterranea Saving Humans and Sea-Watch. The vessel, which had departed on Saturday from the area of the Libyan city of Tajoura, was carrying a group of clandestine migrants.

Following the incident, 32 people were rescued by two commercial ships and were disembarked on Sunday morning on the Italian island of Lampedusa. A video posted by the NGO Sea-Watch shows men clinging to the vessel, which was taking on water and drifting, before being rescued. Since the beginning of the year, 683 migrants have died or gone missing in the central Mediterranean, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM), while the Italian Ministry of the Interior reports 6,175 migrants disembarked in Italy during the same period.
